JU female student harassed, 2 arrested

Staff Correspondent: Police have arrested two people for allegedly harassing a female student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) from the capital’s Shyamoli area.
The arrestees were known as Shaon, 25, footpath hawker, and Sumi Begum, 36, who also sells betel leaf in the area.
It has been understood, the female student went Road no. 2 of Shyamoli with her mother and brother around 11:00am on Sunday. Shaon then whistled and looked at her with bad intentions. He locked in altercation with the girl when she protested it. At one stage, Shaon pushed the girl. She then held his shirt's collar. Later, Sumi rushed to the spot and took away Shaon.
A case was filed in this connection under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurul Islam, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
He said, “The two accused were arrested immediately after the case was filed. They were being interrogated over the incident.”
