Jessore Road to be upgraded two-lane without chopping down trees

Staff Correspondent, Jessore: The government has taken an initiative to upgrade the Jessore-Benapole (Jessore Road) highway two lane remaining the century-old trees unharmed on both sides of the road.
However, 38 kilometer of the highway where there are no trees will be expanded 40 feet.
The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry took the decision in a meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday night.
A tender will be floated for the road construction works under the upgradation project very soon, according to sources.
Monirul Islam, Jessore 2 lawmaker, also Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Road Transport and Bridge Ministry, said, “In line with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement, decision has been taken to upgrade Jessore-Benapole highway standard two-lane, without chopping down any tree of the road. The part of the road where there are no trees will be expanded 40 feet.”
Abdur Rahim, Jessore Executive Engineer of Road and Highways Department, said, “A tender in this regard will be called in next month. The two-lane road will be make highway standard. 2,312 trees on both sides of the road will not be chopped down.”
