Jhikargachha Upazila Chairman lands in jail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sent Jhikargachha Upazila Parishad Chairman Sabira Sultana to jail for six years in a case filed for amassing Tk 1.78 crore illegally and concealing Tk 70.63 lakh in wealth statement.

Judge Md Shahidul Islam of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-7 passed the order after rejecting her bail plea on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sabira Sultana filed a petition with the court seeking bail on condition of appearing before the court through lawyers for appeal. But the court rejected the petition and sent her to jail.

On July 12, the court sentenced Sabrina to six years’ rigorous imprisonment in the case.
