Kamal urges EC to perform duty staying above party allegiance

Senior Correspondent: Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain urged the Election Commission (EC) to perform its duty staying above allegiance and fear to any political party.

Dr Kamal, also the president of Gono Forum, made the call while addressing a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Saturday.

Jatiya Oikyafront leader and Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna read out the written statement on behalf of Dr Kamal.

“We are facing tough challenges centring the December 30 polls of 2018. People establish their ownership on the government and country through elections. All allies of the Oikyafront are very aware of giving nominations to eligible candidates to contest the upcoming national elections. Jatiya Oikyafront will nominate single candidate for every constituency after scrutiny,” Kamal said in the statement.

Urging upon the EC to hold a free and fair election, Dr Kamal said the Commission should perform its duty staying above allegiance and fear to any political party.

He also called upon the returning officers, polling officers and others concerned to discharge their respective duties during the polls staying above loyalty and fear to any party.
