Khaleda Zia to appear before court today

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a Dhaka Special Judges Court today (Thursday) in connection with Zia Orphanage Trust graft and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

Shairul Kabir Khan, an official of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, confirmed the matter to media.

Earlier on June 8, 15 and 22, Khaleda Zia appeared before the court in connection with the two graft cases filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which existed only on paper in 2008.

In 2011, the anti-graft watchdog filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
