Khaleda to appear before court today

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a court in two cases -- the Zia Orphanage and the Zia Charitable Trust graft—today (Tuesday).

BNP Chief is scheduled to arrive in the court around 11:00am, according her lawyer Sanaullah Mia.

The trial proceedings of the cases are running at the court of Dhaka's No. 5 Special Judge Dr. Aktaruzzaman.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a “fake” trust which existed only on paper in 2008.

In 2011, the anti-graft watchdog filed another case, accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, on charges of abusing power in setting up Zia Charitable Trust.
