Khaleda urges party leaders to stand by flood victims

Senior Correspondent: Voicing deep concern over the worsening flood situation in different parts of the country, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia urged her party leaders and activists and well-off people to stand by the victims with relief materials.

The BNP chairperson made the call at a statement issued on Sunday.

In the statement, Khaleda said, “The country’s flood situation has deteriorated. The lives and livelihoods of the flood victims have come to a near stop as floodwater damaged homesteads, communication system and crops on vast areas on the banks of Teesta and some other rivers in the northern region. Flood-hit people have become hapless losing their house, crops and valuables.”

“I call upon BNP leaders and activists at levels, and well-off people to stand beside the flood victims immediately,” she added.

The BNP chairperson, now in London, said the government is least bothered about public sufferings as it grabbed power ignoring people.

Though the government is only providing ‘lip services’, no genuine services and efforts from it are still visible to deal with the fatal flood, she alleged.

She also alleged that the government is not taking any effective step to move the flood victims to safe places. The people of the affected areas are going through a very deplorable time.

The government paid no required attention to providing the victims with food and shelter after the recent flood in haor areas and hillsides in different areas that took many lives, Khaleda alleged.
