Khaleda’s bail extended till July 10

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court on Thursday extended the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia till July 10 in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Khaleda Zia wasn’t produced before the court as she fell ill in jail.

Sanaullah Mia, a lawyer for Khaleda Zia, filed a petition seeking time extension for her bail.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman passed the order.

Besides, time extension was pleaded for Ziaul Haque Munna, another accused in the same case. The court granted the plea and set a date for hearing arguments regarding this.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajal was present at the courtroom.

On February 1, the same court installed at the prison department ground in Bakshibazar of old Dhaka granted Khaleda Zia bail till February 25 and later extended it.

On February 8 last, a special court convicted former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The ACC on August 8, 2011 filed the graft case against Khaleda Zia and three others with Tejgaon police station for embezzling Tk3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust.
