Khaleda’s bail in Narail case upheld

Staff Correspondent: The Appellate Division on Thursday upheld a High Court order that granted six months bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case over allegations of disputing the death toll of the 1971 Liberation War.

Chamber Judge Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order rejecting the petition filed by the state seeking stay on the HC order.

On August 13, the High Court granted 6-month bail to the BNP Chairperson following a bail petition in the case.

Later on the following day, the government filed a petition seeking a stay on the HC order.

The Narail defamation case was filed on December 24, 2015 by Raihan Farooqi, a member of Narail District Council Ward-1 and joint general secretary of Noragati Awami League.

Khaleda had raised doubts about the death toll in the 1971 Liberation War at a discussion at the Engineers Institute auditorium in Dhaka’s Ramna on December 21 of that year.
