Kohli surpasses Dhoni to become most successful Test captain

Sports Desk: With a dominant 2-0 series sweep against the West Indies on Monday, skipper Virat Kohli is now the most successful Indian captain in Test cricket. Kohli surpassed his former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the numero uno position.

India registered a clinical 257-run victory over the Windies in the second Test, which also put them on top of the ICC World Test Championship table with 120 points. The victory was 28th in Tests for Kohli as skipper, taking him above Dhoni (27) in the illustrious list.

Chasing a near-impossible target of 468, West Indies batting once again failed to deliver and were bowled out for 210 in 59.5 overs on the fourth day of the match.

Dhoni had a win percentage of 45 as captain, after winning 27 matches, losing 18 and drawing 15. While, Kohli's win percentage is an impressive 58.33 -- the best among all other Indian captains in the format. In the 48 Tests under Kohli, India have registered 28 wins, lost 10 games and drawn another 10.

Kohli had also surpassed Sourav Ganguly with the most Test wins in overseas matches for India as captain after the victory in the first Test of the series. Kohli now has 13 away wins as captain in 27 matches, while Ganguly had 11 wins in 28 games.

After Dhoni retired from the longest format of the game during the tour of Australia in 2014, Kohli took over the reigns.
