Staff Correspondent: Language movement veteran Dr Halima Khatun breathed her last around 2:00 pm on Tuesday at the United Hospital in the capital after suffering from heart, kidney and blood-related diseases.
Her family sources said the language veteran was admitted to the hospital as she had been suffering from heart, kidney and blood-related diseases.
Halima Khatun was born on August 25, 1933, in Bagherhat. She was the youngest child of Maulovi Abdur Rahman, who completed his graduation from Kolkata Alia Madrasa.
She completed her MA in English Literature from Dhaka University and received Doctorate in Education in 1968 from University of Northern Colorado, USA.
The language veteran got involved with the language movement since 1948 and took part in the movement actively after admitting into Dhaka University in 1951.
Dr Halima, also a writer who completed her Doctorate in Children Literature received Bangla Academy Award for contribution in children literature.
Alongside, she was also honoured with Bangladesh Shishu Academy Sahitya Puraskar (Award for Children Literature of Bangladesh Shishu Academy) in 1999.
