Let Boro season fill with crops

Bengali month Magh is the appropriate month for Boro cultivation. Farmers are passing their busy time in producing paddy. In this season, a preparation has to take for cultivating paddy basically from the Bengali month Kartik.

During this period, seedbed has to prepare and seeds are to sow in the land. Then, paddy seedlings grown in the seedbed are planted in the cultivable land in the month of Pous and Magh.

Farmers consider the month of Magh as the suitable time for planting paddies and seedlings are planted in this month. The month of Magh is the busiest month of Boro cultivation. Crop fields are filled with seedlings in the first 15 days of the month.

Boro season is very important for the agricultural sector of Bangladesh. Paddy is the source of rice which is the staple food and the major portion of paddies is produced in this season. This season is closely related to agriculture and farmers. There are many proverbs about this season.

There have been major changes in the paddy cultivation since the inception of high-yielding Boro paddy in the country. These changes have put a major influence on the entire agriculture system. The production of paddy is largely dependent on irrigation as it generally rains less than expectation in the Boro season. A farmer has to take a special care for a bumper production of paddy. The production of paddy is reduced and the farmers get damaged if proper care is not taken.

Farmers are to invest for the cultivation of paddy in the Boro season. The paddy cultivation needs sufficient money for work of irrigation, fertilizer and to pay wages for agricultural labourers. Chemical fertilizer has to apply in a proper way in the field. But good harvest can be possible to produce if organic fertilizers are applied in the field. The organic fertilizers also help to make land fertile.

Irrigation management is the important way to take care of the Boro land. After the planting of seedlings in the field, water is kept at a level so that the seedlings cannot get inundated. It is needed to keep the land dry for 2/3 days between consecutive two irrigations so that the land gets in touch with air. It is very helpful for the land.

Boro paddies are harvested in the months of Baishakh and Jaistho and brought them to home. It is needed to be careful for cultivating Boro paddies so that nothing can hamper investment flow. Moreover, consultancy is a need for farmers. We expect block supervisors and other officials of the Department of Agriculture will be attentive in this regard and they will visit farmers and provide them consultancy. Let the country fill with golden crops in support of all concerned and farmers.
