Madrasa teachers likely to get good news

Secretariat Correspondent: Ebtedayee madrasa teachers, who are on a hunger strike demanding nationalization of registered Ebtedayee madrasas, are likely to get a good news within one or two days.

State Minister for Education Kazi Keramat Ali assured this when a 25-member delegation of the teachers held a meeting at Transport Pool Building beside the Secretariat on Sunday.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid was also present in the meeting.

The Minister told the delegation that the ministry is working with efforts to solve the crisis. The issue will be informed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith very soon.

A teacher of the delegation told risingbd over the meeting that Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid cordially requested us to call off the strike. He assured us for good news within one or two days, after discussing with PM."

When asked over the strike, the teacher said, "Our fast-unto-death demonstration will be continued until our demands are met. We hope, PM will accept our reasonable demands.

Ebtedayee madrasa teachers have been observing hunger strike in front of National Press Club in the capital since January 9.

Earlier, they had observed sit-in programme for eight days at the same place.

At least 145 teachers have fallen sick in six days of their demonstration due to severe cold. Of them, 18 teachers were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
