Man gets life-term for burning wife to death

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for burning his wife to death at Konaparha of the capital's Demra in 2009.
The convict is known as Jahangir Hossain Roni.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000 in default he has to suffer two more years in jail.
Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury of the Environment Appellate Court in Dhaka passed the order on Thursday.
The convict Roni was appeared before the court during announcement of the verdict. He was again sent to jail with the warrant of punishment.
According to the case statement, the incident took place at a home of Al-Amin road of Paradogair under Demra on January 22, 2009. On the day, Roni noticed a missed call on his wife Hamida Akter's mobile phone. He called back on the number and sensed voice of a male from the opposite side who refused to give his identity.
Later, Roni locked into altercation with his wife over the matter. At one stage, he set fire on clothes Hamida put on, leaving her seriously burnt.
She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where she succumbed on January 29 in the year.
On January 26, deceased's elder brother Shamsul Haque filed a case over the incident.
