Man held with 7 gold bars in Chuadanga

Chuadanga Correspondent: Customs Intelligence arrested a gold smuggler with seven gold bars worth Tk 35 lakh from Joynagar check-post area of Darshana upazila in Chuadanga on Wednesday evening.

The detainee is identified as Azahar Uddin, son of late Abdur Rahim Khan, hailed from Mohammad Ali road in Khidirpur village of Kolkata.

Saifur Rahman, deputy director, Benapole customs intelligence said, acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives took position in Joynagar check-post area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the gold smuggler changed his position and tried to cross border evening.

Meanwhile, detectives challenged him and recovered seven gold bars from his trolley-bag wheels.

Earlier, the Indian citizen visited Bangladesh 15 times in last two months.
