Mass shooting in France leaves three injured

International Desk: At least three people were injured after a gunman opened fire outside a metro station in the city of Lille in northern France.

It was understood that a 14-year-old youth is one of the victims of the shooting, according to French media.

The teen reportedly was shot in the leg while another person took a bullet to the neck.

Local news outlet La Voix du Nord has reported that a third person was taken to hospital.

The shooter was believed to have fled the scene and the motive behind the shooting might be linked to criminal gangs.

Armed police sealed off streets near the Porte d'Arras Metro station at around 9.45pm on Friday night.

But the proximity to a train station and armed police response sparked fears of terrorism as Europe remains on a high state of alert.

The identity of those injured in the attack is unknown.

France has suffered a string of Islamist terror attacks during the past 12 months.

It comes after it was revealed that the suspected Islamist terrorist gunned down at Paris Orly airport last Saturday originally launched attacks on a police traffic patrol and a packed bar with a pellet gun.
