Senior Correspondent: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday said mass media can play a pivotal role in creating awareness among the people for preserving environment and nature.
“We have made our existence critical through destroying our environment …so, the mass media can play a role to make people adapt to climate change and disaster preparedness through awareness,” said the minister.
The minister made these comments while attending the closing session of the two-day ‘The 5th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Summit’ held at Nepalese capital Kathmandu.
The conference adopted Kathmandu Media Action Plan unanimously which would be included into the agenda of the next global meeting on the disaster risk reduction.
Earlier on Thursday, the information minister met Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli at his office in Kathmandu.
The Nepalese Premier showed respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and lauded the development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The two leaders also discussed different common issues including trade, cooperation in mass media and taking advantage from the hydro-electricity project of Nepal.
