Economic Correspondent: Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) alleged that media are spreading misleading information over the price of sacrificial animal rawhide.
BTA president Shahin Ahmed came up with the allegation at a press briefing at its office in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Saturday.
He said, “Media are publishing news that this year rawhide price is the lowest in last 30 years. In fact, it is not authentic. Misleading information is being spread over the price of rawhide which will increase rawhide trafficking.”
He also urged the government to increase surveillance on border for the next one month.
Shahin Ahmed said, “The news is being published on media is an isolated incident. Tanneries will not take responsibility of buying rawhide in less prices forcefully at different areas by some people and in name of different social organisations. Tanners will buy salted rawhide at fixed price. But if anyone did not mix salt on rawhide properly, he will not get price for it. Tanners will collect the rawhide within a week next, if sessional traders preserve their leathers with salt properly.”
