Sports Desk: Bangladesh Premier League's Rajshahi Kings have signed Pakistani opener Mohammad Hafeez for the upcoming edition of the BPL, a Kings official said on Thursday.
Hafeez will be available for five matches from the beginning of the tournament and is later expected to join the Pakistan squad for the ODI series against South Africa.
"We have signed Hafeez as we needed a right-handed batsman at the top," Kings chief executive Tahmeed Huq confirmed to Cricbuzz. "We are expecting to have him for the first five matches. Later he will join the Pakistan squad for the series against South Africa. We are confident that his vast experience will be invaluable for us."
Hafeez played for Khulna Royals in 2012. He was picked by Comilla Victorians last year, but decided to skip the tournament to work on his bowling action.
Hafeez will fit in well with the Kings' top order which comprises of Soumya Sarkar, Shahriar Nafees, Mominul Haque, Fazle Rabbi and Jakir Hasan - all of them left-handed batsman. Mohammad Hafeez has so far played 252 T20s and scored 5317 runs with a strike rate of 122.59.
BPL is slated to start from January 5 with Rangpur Riders taking on the Chittagong Kings in the opening game followed by Dhaka Dynamites locking horns with Rajshahi Kings in the other game of the opening day.
