Mugger killed in Tongi gunfight

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A suspected mugger was killed in a gunfight with police in Gazipur’s Tongi on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kawsar, 28, son of Mintu Mia, hailed from Ershad Nagar area of Tongi.

Confirming the matter, Tongi East police station officer-in-charge Md Kamal Hossain said, the mugger was arrested from Gazipur area on Tuesday afternoon. Later, following his information, police conducted a drive to recover fire arms in Bashpotti area of Gazipura around 3:00am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, his cohorts opened fire aiming police and tried to snatch him from police detention which triggered a gunfight, leaving him bullet injured.

Later, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
