Murder case accused killed in ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent, Savar: Babul Hossain Munshi¸ an accused in the murder case of Mehedi Hasan Tipu at Ashulia, has been killed in a ‘gunfight’.

The gunfight took place early Thursday at Nishchintaur of Ashulia.

Babul Hossain Munshi was the son of Babor Ali Munshi at Tekni village under Sonatola Thana in Barguna district.

He was an accused in many cases including murder of garment worker Mehedi Hasan.

According to police, Babul Munshi was arrested on Wednesday night. Following his confessional statement, a team of police conducted a drive in the area for arms haul. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Babul’s associates opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.

At one stage, Babul received bullet injury and he was taken to Savar upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Mehedi Hasan, a garments worker, was killed after abduction and his seven body parts were recovered from a refrigerator of a house on November 12, said police.
