NRB Commercial Bank’s MD removed

Economic Correspondent: Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday removed Managing Director (MD) of NRB Commercial Bank Dewan Mujibur Rahman for his alleged involvement in corruption and irregularity.

The BB banned him from joining any bank or financial organisation for next two years, said an order from the central bank to NRB Commercial Bank on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Bank’s spokesperson Subhankar Saha said the directive by Governor Fazle Kabir has been sent to the bank on Wednesday.

The central bank earlier served show-cause notice against him on 10 counts of wrongdoings, including signature forgery, interference of outsiders in the board and corruption.

All the irregularities were inter-linked and took place with the involvement of the board and the management. As the MD, Rahman never informed the BB about the irregularities, the show-cause notice said.
