National Mourning day observed at IU

H K Jibon from IU: The authorities of Islamic University on Tuesday observed national mourning day and 42 martyrdom anniversary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on the university campus in Kushtia with due respect and solemnity.

Marking the day, the university vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag at half-mast while IU pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the black flag in front of the university administration building around 9.30am.

Later, a mourning rally was brought out from the administrative building led by the university vice-chancellor around 10:00am.



The procession ended at the university’s Art’s Faculty building after parading main roads of the campus while IU treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, its acting registrar SM Abdul Latif, IUTA president Prof Dr M Mahbubur Rahman, its secretary Prof Dr M Anowar Hossain, Dr Abul Ahsan Chowdhury, Prof of IU Bangla department, various faculty deans, hall provosts, departmental chairmen and teachers were present at the rally.

An arts exhibition on the founder of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also held at the Art’s Faculty building.

After the exhibition, a discussion on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was held at Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university after completing a dowa mahfil.

Earlier, the leaders and activists of IU BCL unit led by its president Shahinur Rahman Shahin and secretary Jewel Rana Halim, brought out a procession in the morning. Among others, Sala Uddin Ahmed Sojol, Alamgir Hossen Alo, Rabiul Islam Polash, Rizvi Ahmed Papon, Shamiul Islam Shamim, Toukir Mahfuz Masud, Shiblur Rahman, Nur Alam and Faisal Siddiqi Arafat took part on the rally.

The national flag also kept at half-mast and black flags were hoisted atop the university's dormitories.
