Desk Report: The National Productivity Day will be observed today (Tuesday) in the country aiming to create mass awareness to raise productivity in all fields, including industrial, agriculture and service sectors.

The theme of the day this year is “Productivity Development for Happy and Prosperous Country.”

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the eve of the day stressing the need for increasing productivity, economic stability and ensuring sustainable development and growth.

President M Abdul Hamid said, productivity is an essential part of national economy. It accelerates overall economic activities of a country and plays an important role to increase production, savings, investment and employment opportunities, he added.

A country will be happy and prosperous when its standard of life improves, citizens of the country will be well-educated, social security will be increased and the equitable socio-economic system will be ensured, he said.

“Bangladesh has now attained the status of a developing country. We are very close in implementing Vision-2021. The next step of the government is to implement Vision-2041 and become a developed country. At the same time, the government is committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations by 2030.

Increasing national productivity is a must to implement these long term action plans of the government,” he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said, “Recent performance in economic growth and changes in social indicators of Bangladesh have drawn the attention of the global economist, political and business community. It is very important to increase productivity in every sector for sustainable development.”

She said the Awami League government has been striving hard to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed-prosperous one by 2041. To achieve this goal, it is inevitable to improve productivity in all sectors, she said adding for this reason, awareness on productivity among the mass people is very essential.

The President and the Prime Minister hoped that observance of National Productivity Day will play a vital role to accelerate the trend of productivity for development of Bangladesh.
