Sports Desk: New Zealand postponed their upcoming Under-19 tour of Bangladesh as they are yet to recover fully from the trauma of the terror attack. The visitors were initially scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on April 10 to play a five-match youth ODI series.
''The home series against New Zealand Under-19 squad is postponed for the time being as they informed us that they are not coming as per schedule,'' BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Sunday (March 31). ''It looks like they are yet to recover from the shock due to the terror attack. It is understood that the parents might have some reservations as the series was expected to be played between young cricketers,'' he added.
Players from the Bangladesh team narrowly escaped a shooting incident at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch before they safely made it back to their hotel earlier this month. As a result, the New Zealand Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to cancel the third Test that was to be played at the Hagley Oval. Bangladesh subsequently left the country immediately to return home following the shootout, which killed 49 and injured several others.
Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox's Bazar and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram were to host the matches of the series that was scheduled to be played from April 16.
