New ship 'Banglar Joyjatra' to be added to BSC

Senior Correspondent: Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is going to get a new vessel named "MV Banglar Joyjatra" after 27 years.

The new ship would be delivered by the Chinese supplier in July this year.

China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation made the 39,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) bulk carrier.

The ship will arrive in Bangladesh on July 4 after a launching function on April 24 at the shipyard of the Chinese company. 

A delegation led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Monday night for China to attend the launching ceremony of the vessel.

The total cost of the six ships project is Tk 1,843.58 crore. China will provide financial assistance of Taka 1,448 crore while BSC will provide Taka 395 crore.
