New wage board formed for RMG sector

Senior Correspondent: A new wage board has been formed to review the existing wages of the garment industry workers.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu came up with the disclosure at a press conference at Bangladesh secretariat on Sunday noon.

Mujibul Haque said the government has formed a wage board for garment industry workers. The committee will submit a report with recommendations within six months after scrutinising the present salary structure. The government will finalise the salary structure following the report by the December this year.

BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman and Women's Affairs Secretary of Jatiya Sramik League Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan have been included in the board with four other permanent members, said the state minister.

Of the permanent members, former district judge Syed Aminul Islam has been named as Chairman while other three members are Quzi Saifuddin Ahmed on behalf of owners, Jatiya Sramik League acting President Fazlul Haq Montu and Dhaka University Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin.

Former president of FBBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) AK Azad, leaders of the worker federations and organisations were also present at the briefing.
