N’ganj sub-registrar suspended over bribery scandal

Senior Correspondent: Eshak Ali Mandal, a sub-registrar at Araihazar Upazila Land Registry Office, was temporarily suspended on Sunday after a video footage of bribe taking by him went viral on social media.

Inspector General of Registration Khan Mohammad Abdul Mannan suspended him after primary interrogation at the office, according to a letter with his signature issued in this connection.

A show cause notice was served to him as to why he should not be suspended permanently, taken any other step against him or filed a case against him over the corruption.

He was asked to come up with reply within seven working days.

Eshak Ali Mandal has been withdrawn from his office in the morning as he will be replaced by Rezaul Karim Bakshi, sub-registrar, Rupganj.

A video footage of bribe taking by Eshak Ali went viral on social media. Various newspapers carried reports on the video footage.

The footage shows that Eshak Ali was taking bribe for signing each deed and keeping the money in a drawer in his desk.

It also shows that he was giving back money if the amount was less than his demand.
