No dialogue over polls issue: Quader

Senior Correspondent: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, “After a great debacle in the general election, the demand of Jatiya Oikyafront for reelection is ridiculous. The election has been appreciated at home and abroad. That’s why there will be no dialogue related to the election.”

Quader made the comment at a meeting of Awami League’s Dhaka North unit held at the party’s Dhanmondi office in the capital on Tuesday.

“It’s a great victory for Awami League after the country’s independence. This victory is the victory of AL’s unity. Awami League emerges victorious when the party remains united,” Quader said.

“The United Nations has greeted our government over the landslide victory in the December 30 national elections and expressed its eagerness to work with us. Besides, other countries of the world have also greeted us,” he added.

The Awami League, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, won an overwhelming majority in the December-30 national election.

The Upazila Parishad elections, coming shortly after the parliamentary polls, will be a test of popularity of the political parties.

Quader said the presidents concerned of the party’s upazila and district units would suggest three possible candidates and the party’s Upazila election nomination board will choose one of them.
