'No political crisis in Bangladesh'

Staff Correspondent: Awami League (AL) Presidium Member, also Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim has said there was no political crisis in Bangladesh.

He said, "Many people are predicting that political crisis will be created in the country. But there is no political crisis in Bangladesh and will not be created in future.

The Minister said this while addressing a memorial meeting marking the first death anniversary of veteran parliamentarian Suranjit Sengupta at Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Saturday.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized the discussions with founding president of the organization Sarah Begum Kabori in the chair.

Among others, Dhaka South City AL General Secretary Sahe Alam Murad, joint general secretary Dr Dilip Roy, general secretary of Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad Rana Das Gupta, jote vice president Mobarak Ali Shikder and general secretary Arun Sarker Rana were present on the occasion.

"No crisis is being prevailed in the country centering the next general polls," Nasim said requesting BNP not to create any instability to this end as the ruling AL doesn't believe in holding the upcoming general election keeping the BNP out.

"The people, who have said the court delivered the verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to keep her and BNP out of the next election after 10 years of registering the case, doesn't believe in the rule of law and they have no respect to the court," he added.

Describing Suranjit Sengupta as a guardian of parliament, the senior AL leader said, "We took opinions from him (Suranjit) in case of arising any question over legal and parliamentary complexities. The nation will recall his contribution to all the democratic movements in the country with due respect."
