No river encroachers can contest election: HC

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) directed the Election Commission not to allow any person to contest elections, if he or she is accused of encroaching on rivers.
The HC bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order on a case over the conservation of the Turag River.
The court also directed the Bangladesh Bank not to provide any loan to land grabbers.
In the Sunday’s verdict, the court declared Turag River as “legal and juristic person”.
