Nomination Scrutiny: 243 candidates declared valid

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) declared 243 candidates valid after hearing petitions filed against the rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers during scrutiny.

The candidature of the rejected aspirants were accepted after three days hearing petitions. Of them, 80 aspirants got their candidature in first day, 78 in the second day and 85 in third day.

Earlier, the Returning Officers (ROs) declared valid the candidature of 2279 candidates. Later, the EC finalized 2522 candidates following petitions.

As many as 3,065 nomination papers were submitted, and the ROs rejected 786 of those during scrutiny. A total of 543 appeals were filed against ROs' rejection of nomination papers.
