Staff Correspondent: Teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions are continuing their fast unto death programme for the third consecutive day.
The teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions have been observing the programme under the banner of Federation of Teachers and Employees of Non-MPO Educational Institutions in front of the National Press Club since June 25 demanding inclusion of all their institutes into the government's monthly pay order (MPO).
Leaders of the platform said they will continue the fast unto death, unless their institutions are registered on the government’s MPO list.
The teachers and employees have already been staging a nonstop demonstration since 10 June this year.
On June 23, they observed a token hunger strike and threatened to begin a fast unto death from June 25 if the demand is not met by June 24.
They have in the meantime submitted separate memorandums to the president, the speaker and deputy speaker placing their demands.
On June 21, the education ministry formed two committees to settle the matter of MPO for non-government educational institutes amid the nonstop demonstration.
There are 5,242 approved non-MPO institutions with around 80,000 employees. Some 1,624 institutions were included in the MPO list in 2010.
No institute has been included into MPO list since 2010.
