‘OIC to play bold role for Rohingya repatriation’

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ali Asghar Muhammadi Sijani said the Organization (OIC) will play a bold role in international arena politically and diplomatically to repatriate Rohingya people fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar due to military oppression.

He came up with the statement while visiting Ukhia Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday noon.

Sijani was leading a delegation comprising of parliament members of nine OIC countries who visited different Rohingya camps in Ukhia.

The 20-member delegation reached UNHCR transit camp adjacent to the Kutupalang Rohingya camp around 11:00am directly from Cox’s Bazar airport.

They talked to at least 50 Rohingya men and women for an hour and asked their conditions. Rohingyas also expressed the tale of oppression carried out on them by Myanmar military.

From there, the delegation reached Kutupalang D-4 camp. They visited extended development activities of UNHCR and talked to the Rohingyas there.

The OIC delegation reached Lombashia camp of Kutupalang around 12:30pm. They visited women-friendly camp of UNFPA and talked to oppressed Rohingya women there. The delegation also visited children-friendly centre run by Unicef.
