Oikya Andolon stages demo over Rohingya issue

Senior Correspondent: Islami Oikya Andolon, an Islamic party, staged a demonstration in the capital’s Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area protesting atrocities on Rohingya people and demanding their repatriation to Myanmar.

The leaders of the organization brought out the procession guarded by law enforcers after Jumma prayers on Friday.

Speaking at the procession, Dr Moulana Isha Shahedi, ameer of the organization, said the United Nations (UN) condemned Myanmar over the ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine state which is not enough.

He demanded that those who are involved in carrying out such atrocities on Rohingya Muslims should be brought to justice.

At the same time, necessary steps should be taken to repatriate the Rohingya refugees to their own land by exerting international pressure on Myanmar, he added.
