One killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Kushtia Correspondent: A suspected dacoit was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district’s Mirpur upazila on Tuesday midnight.

The gunfight took place in Moshan Kaligara Bridge area of Kushtia-Meherpur road.

The deceased was identified as Rafikul Islam Rafik, son of Aziz Sheikh at Machhpara village under Rajbari district.

According to police, a gang of robbers were taking preparations to commit robbery in the area and acting on a tip off, a team of police conducted a drive there. But sensing the presence of law enforcers, dacoits opened fire, forcing the policemen to back fire that triggered a gunfight.

Rafik received bullet injury in the gunfight and he was taken to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a LG, one round of bullet and some local weapons.
