Operation 'South Paw' begins in Jhenidah

Jhenidah Correspondent: Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit resumed the operation codenamed "South Paw" at ‘Thanthania Para militant den’ in Porahati village under Sadar upazila of the district.

It was being delayed to resume the operation due to incessant rain although it was supposed to begin at 7:00am on Saturday, police said.

Confirming the start of the operation, Md Didar Ahmed, DIG of Khulna Range, said the operation began around 9:30am.

Briefing reporters about the operation yesterday at around 10:30pm, Didar Ahmed said the law enforcers surrounded a house of the Porahati village suspecting it to be a militant hideout since 6:00pm. The house is owned by Abdullah of that village.

Yesterday, the operation was suspended due to bad weather and darkness of night, he said.

During the operation yesterday, an IED, three suicidal vests, a pistol, a pressure cooker bomb and 20 containers filled with explosives were recovered from the hideout.
