Order on govt plea against Khaleda’s bail July 2

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court will pass an order on July 2 on a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the government challenging the High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a killing case lodged in Comilla.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date for passing the order after holding hearing on the leave-to-appeal petition.

Advocate Khandakar Mahbub Hossain and A J Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbube Alam stood for the state.

Earlier on May 28, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail for six months to Khaleda in two Cumilla cases.

Later, following two stay petitions filed by the government, chamber judge of the SC on May 29 stayed the HC order of bail and sent the stay petitions to its full bench for their hearing on May 31.
