PM’s Japan visit: Bangladesh, Japan sign $ 2.5 billion deal

Secretariat Correspondent: Bangladesh signed an agreement with Japan on getting US$ 2.5 billion official development assistance (ODA) to implement five projects in the country on Wednesday.
The deal has been signed in presence of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at his office in Tokyo.
The five projects are - Matarbari Port Development Project (1), Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line 1), Foreign Direct Investment Promotion Project (II), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Promotion Financing Project (Phase 2) and Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project (V).
Earlier, the two premiers had a bilateral meeting. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Prime Minister’s private industry and investment advisor Salman F Rahman, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and other attended the function.
