Pacer Shahadat banned for 5 years

Pacer Shahadat Hossain has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for physically assaulting teammate Sunny Arafat during a domestic league match.

Among the five years, he will remain under observation for two years.  Besides the ban, he has been fined Tk three lakh. BCB officials confirmed this on Tuesday noon.

But, there is scope for Shahadat Hossain to appeal against the ban by November 26.

Bangladesh pacer Shahadat Hossain Razib is infamous for his aggressive mentality. He had drawn widespread criticism for beating a housemaid several years ago.

Now, he struck the media headlines by beating his teammate Mohammad Arafat.

The incident took place during the National Cricket League (NCL) match between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Sunday.

During the second day of the match, Shahadat Hossain started firing when he failed to control his anger against teammate Mohammad Arafat.

In the first innings, Khulna Division were batting in reply to Dhaka Division’s 279 runs. Pacer Shahadat instructed Arafat to rub a certain part of the ball. Arafat did not agree and Shahadat also didn’t able to control his anger. The 33-year old pacer slapped Arafat in the field.

Earlier, in 2015, Shahadat and his wife had been jailed for torture on a domestic worker. Even after that incident, humble behavior did not come to him. He was trying to get his hands on a CNG driver at Asad Gate in the capital last year is not an old story either.
