Perform duties with honesty: CEC to executive magistrates

Staff Correspondent: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda directed executive magistrates to perform their duties with honesty during the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The CEC said this while briefing the executive magistrates about electoral code of conduct at the EC Office on Sunday morning.

He said, “All the candidates should get equal treatment and you need to ensure that they follow the electoral code of conduct.”

Nurul Huda also said, "You (executive magistrates) must protect the presiding officers. Presiding Officers face huge pressure. It’s yours duty to assist them. Don’t try to command them. Cooperation between the executive magistrates and the presiding officers is needed for holding a fair election."

Meanwhile, aiming the executive magistrates, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said, “The activities of you should be neutral totally. The law enforcers will open fire following the order of you. Judicial Mind should be applied in this regard.”
