Photo ID compulsory during domestic air travel

Staff Correspondent: Passengers will have to carry photo IDs while travelling to local destinations by air.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab) issued the instruction which was put forward by Shakil Meraj, general manager (PR) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Tuesday.

Valid passports, NID cards, driving licences, student IDs and office IDs will have to be shown while collecting boarding cards, Biman said in a statement.

Biman requested the passengers to keep photo IDs with them travelling to domestic destinations. “Otherwise, they’ll be restricted from travelling,” the statement added.

The instruction came as part of boosting security of the airports and airlines following an alleged attempt to hijack a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport here in Chattogram on Sunday evening.
