Risingbd Desk: Today is the 2nd death anniversary of leading contemporary Bengali poet Shahid Qadri.
On this day in 2016, the poet breathed his last due to old age complications at a hospital in New York in the United States of America (USA) at the age of 74.
Qadri’s body was brought to Dhaka following the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, he was laid to eternal rest at Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard in the city.
He was born at Park Circus in Kolkata on August 14 in 1942. He moved to Dhaka in 1952 when he was 10. Later, he started his life in exile from 1980. He lived in Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA. He was living for about three decades in the USA until his death. However, he was active in writing in his exile life.
His famous books were -Uttaradhikar (Inheritance), Tomake Obhibadon Priyatama (Salute to You, Dearest), Kothao Kono Krondon Nei (Weepings Nowhere), Amar Chumbangullo Pouchhiye Dio (Please, Convey My Kisses).
Shahid Qadri was awarded Bangla Academy Award in 1973. In 2011, he was given the Ekushey Padak, the highest national award of Bangladesh.
