Police introducing new unit to curb rumours: IGP

Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary said a new unit is being introduced to curb rumours on social networking sites through misleading and fake information. Now it is on the final stage.

He said, “The new unit would be formed once clearance is received from the Ministry of Finance. Manpower has already been selected and steps are being taken to provide them training abroad.”

In reply to a query, the IGP told this to the reporters after emerging from a programme held at the ground of Armed Police Battalion in the capital’s Uttrara on Saturday.

“A combined cell has also been formed over cyber-crime at Police Headquarters. The cell will work to keep any case link to cyber-crime under monitoring so that no one can spread rumours to deteriorate law and order situation,” he further said.
