Politics country’s big business: Debapriya Bhattacharya

Economic Correspondent: Center for Policy Dialogue's (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya said politics has turned into a big business in the country.

He came up with the comment while addressing a press conference organized to unveil a report titled “Graduation to developed country from least developed one” at the Brac Centre Inn in Dhaka's Mohakhali area on Thursday.

Khondaker Golam Moazzem, research director of the CPD, unveiled the report.

“In the respective organizations of the businesspeople, it is necessary to have good governess in the competitive economy. Therefore, competitive politics is also needed. Businesspeople should have a vital role in graduating to a developed country from a least developed one. But, there is a doubt whether entrepreneurs are ready or not for playing the role,” Debapriya Bhattacharya said.

He said, “Businesspeople are enjoying the state facilities for the needs of individuals. For this, small entrepreneurs are not getting the same facilities. Politics has now turned into a big business in the country.”
