‘Poverty rate comes down, literacy rate increases’

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said the country's poverty has come down and rate of literacy has increased in recent years because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami government's sincere efforts.

The Minister said this while speaking at a discussion after unveiling the memorial plaque 'Ujjiban Platinum Jubilee Chattar' marking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Madan Mohan College on Tuesday.

Muhith, who is the chairman of the college's governing body, said a remarkable development has taken place in the country's education sector because of the present government's education-friendly measures.

The government will continue to work for further development of the education system in the days to come, he added.

College Teachers Council general secretary Uzzal Das, deputy principal Md Rafiqiul Islam, and Prof Abdul Hamid received the finance minister when he reached the college campus. College Chhatra League president AKM Mahmudul Hasan and general secretary Mifta Ul Hassain were present at the programme.
