Practice of humanity needed to prevent degradation

Our society is getting questioned day by day. Crises are gradually increasing due to social instability and degradation of social values. Especially in family life, the consequences of this degradation are dangerous. Recently, two consecutive double murders bear this testimony. Mother and her son were killed in their house in the capital's Kakrail on Wednesday evening. Father and his daughter were killed in a house in the capital's Badda within 12 hours of this incident. Earlier, a fifth-grade student was burnt to death in Narsingdi last week.

Primarily, it is being suspected that family feud or business rivalry might lead to the double murders. Police are probing the Kakrail double murder taking family feud, business rivalry and some other issues into consideration. Abdul Karim, owner of the building where the double murder was taken place, had three wives. Of them, housewife Shamsun Nahar Karim, who was killed, was the first wife of Karim. Currently, Karim has no legal connection with his second wife which means divorce has been taken place between them. Following the murder, third wife has been held for interrogation. On the other hand, extra-marital affair might lead to Badda double murder, police suspected. Three people including Arzina Begum, wife of Jamil Sheikh who was killed, have been held in this connection.

It seems that human traits in our social life are going vanished gradually. Family ties are slowing down step by step. Apart from reducing the sense of humanity, our feelings to each other are getting weak. We are getting self-centered. Family and social bonds as well as dependence on each other are on the gradual decline. This degradation has now become noticeable everywhere in the society, be it poor or rich family. So, it is necessary to nourish values and enhance the practice of humanity in social and family life in a bid to stop this degradation.

Another concern is that children are mostly becoming the victims of violence in the society. Children are being tortured and killed following a trifling matter. Child torture is last reported at Bamoni area in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur. According to news reports, on suspicion of deleting a games folder from a laptop, a four-year baby was dumped at a garden in the Bamoni area of the upazila after the baby was brutally tortured wrapping it inside a sack. Earlier, a youth was knifed to death at Chawkbazar area in Old Dhaka following a trivial matter.

After analyzing all these incidents, it can be easily said that those who are carrying out such brutal activities have no sense of humanity. It seems that all the moralities have gone vanished from our society. The way children are being victims of family feud is a matter of great concern. Punitive punishment should be ensured for such kind of crimes. Side by Side, we have to initiate relevant research and study to find out reasons behind this degradation.
