To implement this, the jail authorities are going to introduce “mobile phone facility” for prisoners from March 28 in a bid to stop the use of illegal cell phones by notorious criminals.
As a pilot project undertaken by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the authorities have selected the Tangail District Jail for providing the facility.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will formally inaugurate the pilot project tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00am, said Abul Bashar, a jailer at the Tangail District Jail.
All phone conversations will be recorded. But prisoners involved in heinous crimes, such as militancy, abduction and snatching, are not eligible for the phone facility.
Under the A 2i project of the Prime Minister’s Office, four telephone booths have been set up inside the jail to facilitate the prisoners.
