Quota reform leader Faruk arrested in arson case

Staff Correspondent: Faruk Hossen, a joint convener of Sadharon Chhatra Odhikar Songrokhon Parishad, has been shown arrested in an arson case, police claimed today.

“Police have arrested Faruk based on specific information and evidence. He has been kept at Shahbagh Police Station. Details about him could not be said at this moment,” said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Md Ariful Islam, elder brother of Faruk Hassan, alleged that he was picked up by a ruling party-backed student activist from Central Shaheed Minar area in the capital on Monday during a demonstration for quota reform there.

I searched for him at the Shahbag, Ramna, New Market police stations on Tuesday, but he was not found anywhere, he added.

Earlier, Faruk’s family alleged that he had been missing since Monday.

Faruk has been shown arrested in connection with a case relating burning of a motor bike which belongs to Special Branch (SB) of police.
