Quota reform leader Rashed arrested

Staff Correspondent: The Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Sunday arrested Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, from Bhasantek area of Dhaka today on charge of making defamatory statements on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Rashed was shown arrested in a case filed under the section 57 of Information Communication Technology (ICT) act, said Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) law affairs secretary Al Nahian Khan Joy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station this morning, he added.

Earlier on Saturday, at least six leaders of the platform that led the quota reform movement were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by some BCL activists on Dhaka University campus.

Protesting the attack, the students’ council called for an indefinite boycott of classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country from Sunday.
